ASPERGER SYNDROME CLINICAL STUDY GROUP
Portland Metropolitan Area
Since November, 2000, a group of clinical professionals has met for two hours monthly to exchange experience and develop best practices in counseling individuals with Asperger Syndrome. The group started in response to requests from counseling professionals from all disciplines to share techniques and concerns arising from their work with Asperger Syndrome children, adolescents and adults. The format is oriented towards problem solving through seeking the perspective of others wrestling with ethical issues, treatment modalities, and cooperative arrangements with other professionals working with the same clients.
Our focus is not on pathology or deficits. While challenges are acknowledged, all members of the group are oriented towards strength-based, person-centered approaches.
This no-fee study group is open to all counseling professionals. It is not open to adult patients or clients. All we ask is your commitment to attend as regularly as you can. For some professions, professional development hours/continuing education hours can be arranged.
Professionals in the group have come from the following disciplines:
Counseling professionals and advanced graduate students from all disciplines are encouraged to inquire about joining the group. At the present (February 2005) we meet on the second Thursday of the month between 9:30 and 11:30 AM at the professional offices and conference room of Lisa Lieberman, LCSW, 15100 SW Boones Ferry Road, Lake Oswego, OR.
Persons interested in attending are asked to first call either Lisa Lieberman or Roger N. Meyer, co-founders and co-facilitators of the group.
